Language is defined as a verbal or non-verbal method of understanding our world and communicating with others. Language is not only seen as our main mother-tongue, but also plays a important role in understanding educational subjects such as history and mathematics. Likewise, language is always present in any area of knowledge and is one of the ways human acquire knowledge. People might think that language is equally important in any area of knowledge. However, on closer look, it becomes clear that language is used for various functions. This essay would discuss at how language is being used in history and mathematics in order to prove that language equally plays an important role in two area of knowledge, but at the same time, there is a difference in the way language is used.Although the language is being used differently in areas of knowledge such as history and mathematics, the idea of language used as sharing knowledge shows how equally important language could be in different areas of knowledge.1 – importance in historyHistory is an important factor in our daily life as it has contributed in forming our future. History chronologically records the events such as development of society, community, and life of famous historical figures. When explaining history, it is important to express feelings, describe information and facts. Language is one of the best tools for us to gain knowledge about historical information. Students usually learn history at school through reading textbooks, watching historical documentaries and listening to teachers. This shows that language plays a significant role in learning history. Importance of language in history also can be found in historical records which mostly have evidences. To record these evidences, language acts as a mandatory tool. example for importance in historyFor example, ‘Nanjung Ilgi (War Diary of Yi Sun-sin)’ ,a war diary written by Admiral Yi Sun-sin, is an amazingly important text of history in South Korean history. Language not only builds up history, but it sometimes alters and manipulates facts, especially those with more limitations and weak back-up evidences. Recording and noting can have limitations in translating texts since language varies in terms of cultures,places, countries and specific groups. As texts in different languages cannot be utterly translated, language might affect when depicting history. Language in mathematics is more precise and objective where they all have their own functions and every single of them are clear. People have created the language in Mathematics for them to make sense and understand the world around them. Mathematic is a timeless language that uses symbols and numbers instead of letters and words, for example, 10 digits and values like x,y and z. However, the use of language in mathematics is quite different from what is used in history, as it is more logical and factual based on what is right or wrong. Just like the information in textbooks, words and letters are inefficient in math especially in such topic of infinity. Here, the language is not able to explain the idea of dividing by such small number results a large number.ConclusionIn conclusion, there is a solid evidence to substantiate assertion that language is equally important in different areas of knowledge despite strong counterclaims. Language is equally important in both history and mathematics, while both have different uses of language. Accordingly, history is mainly conveying information or events through text written when mathematics itself is seen as a language is precise and objective with infinite amount of words.
